We thought you’d enjoy a metaphysical treatment of the Nativity story from well-known scripture in both Matthew’s and Luke’s Gospels. We’ve presented the King James Versions of both Gospels first and then added a metaphysical interpretation for each verse in boldface, coming from The Four Gospels: New Metaphysical Version. Hope you enjoy it!
Luke 2:6-16 (King James Version)
1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
Before we come into an awareness that we are spiritual beings having a human experience there is a time (in those days) that we give in to the dictates (decrees) of our willful egocentric nature (our Augustian consciousness) which affects our entire being (all of the world).
2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
It dawns on us (the first registration) that, if we choose to do so, we can allow our egocentric influence to become the ruling authority over every thought and activity within our consciousness and behavior. We mistakenly believe that our executive will (our Cyrenius capacity) which is a product of our sense appetites (Syria) can maintain its material governorship
3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
over all aspects (city) of our conscious being.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
However, it is through our maturing spiritual wisdom (our Josephic quality) that we are able to understand we are branches of the one True Vine (our Nazarethean awareness) despite our struggle with past religious dogmas, embedded sense-veenered beliefs, and repressed life perspectives (our Galilean consciousness). Recognizing this, we are able to identify with our Christed thoughts (our Judean consciousness) which are centered in love (our Davidic capacity) because in truth we are the expressions (descendants) of the union between spiritualized intuition and wisdom (Bethlehem).
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
Our maturing spiritual wisdom (our Josephic orientation) combined with our superior intuitive ability (our Maryness) move within the currents (went to be taxed) of our ruling willfulness and negate its influence by molding (giving birth) substance into the perfect Christ Idea.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
This awareness comes into fruition,
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
and we awaken (give birth) to the realization that we are God indivisibilized at the point of us. We get this at the intuitive level; however, we are initially confined (wrapped in swaddling clothes) to the intellect’s limited understanding of higher spiritual truths. The unenlightened ego’s sense-driven instincts (manger) generally make no room for higher spiritual truths (the inn), even though these truths underwrite all of our human experience.
When we have reached that illumined, intuitive level (country) of consciousness, our humble, trustworthy, natural thoughts (shepherds) watch over (are the receptacle for) our good and obedient intentions (flock) despite our egocentric unreceptivity (night).
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
At this level of spiritual awareness we can receive an incredibly powerful divine insight (angel of the Lord). So powerful, in fact, that we may be astounded (sore afraid) at the depth of knowledge (the glory of the Lord shone round about them) we have access to.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
However, our capacity to receive such an incredible insight (angel) means that all of the thoughts (people) in our thought universe, that is – our consciousness – have unlimited spiritual potential (good news).
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Within us, specifically in our super-consciousness (city of David), is the incontrovertible awareness that we are innately indivisiblized expressions of the Christ as us (Saviour).
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
It is from this cusp of consciousness (sign) that we remind ourselves that our confinement (swaddling clothes) in a sense-induced perspective (manger) will be a temporary condition and not a permanent reality.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Many spiritual inclinations (a multitude of heavenly hosts) will no doubt come to us
as we give thanks (praise) that our Christed thoughts which come from our super-conscious mind (the highest heaven) will bring harmony and equilibrium (peace) to our entire human evolutionary mind (earth).
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
When these divine ideas subside (go to heaven) our spiritually quickened thought centers (shepherds) are cognizant of the unlimited potential of universal substance (the Bethlehem effect). We become excited, to say the least, and want to know more about this higher aspect of us which is attuned to Universal Supply.
16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
We already intuitively know the way. It is through quickening and combining our superior intuition (Mary) and maturing wisdom (Joseph) that we become conscious of the Christ Seed (Child) in the midst of our baser human instincts (manger).
Matthew 2:1, 9-11 (King James Version)
When we awaken to our Christ potential through our spiritual recognition of the presence of Universal Substance, we gain inner peace. Our superior spiritual nature has no doubts about our Christ potential.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
We shall rejoice with exceedingly great joy because
11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
We shall experience what it feels like to become one with our Christ Nature. And the way we can begin to experience that oneness with Spirit is to adopt three specific spiritual practices: maintain an abiding consciousness of the Omnipresent richness of Substance (gold); be prayer-conditioned through affirmative prayer and daily meditation (frankincense); and let go of error thoughts, attitudes, and habits that serve no spiritual purpose (myrrh).
We affirm a peaceful, joyous Christmas, and a year ahead that is filled with sacred abundance, inner peace, and incredible joy! Merry Christmas ~ as you walk the spiritual path on practical feet!!
